Power Is A Delivery Problem - What AI Infrastructure Needs Beyond Electricity
The opportunity spans generation, electrical equipment, fuel, controls, and the coordination required to bring a facility online.
A developer identifies a promising location. A customer needs computing capacity. The project has investor interest.
Then comes the question that changes the conversation:
When can the facility actually receive the power it needs?
For AI infrastructure, power readiness means establishing how electricity will reach the intended load, at the required capacity and reliability, on a workable schedule.
That question connects an entire ecosystem of companies.
Why Power Delivery Matters
In its 2025 Energy and AI report, the International Energy Agency projected that global data center electricity consumption would reach approximately 945 terawatt-hours by 2030 in its base case. That projection covers all data centers, with AI a major driver of growth. The report also identifies a timing mismatch: data center development can move faster than the energy infrastructure needed to support it. IEA
For IOI, the business implication is clear: understanding demand requires understanding the delivery conditions behind it.
An electricity requirement should trigger questions about service capacity, infrastructure upgrades, equipment, operating requirements, and responsibility for each part of the work.
Follow The Power To The Customer

Start with the customer’s expected load and deployment schedule. Establish what must be available at initial operation and what can arrive in later phases.
Then examine the proposed service pathway. Which facilities, equipment, agreements, and construction activities does it depend on? Which have been confirmed? Which remain assumptions?
Finally, examine the operating plan. How will the facility respond to an interruption? Who will maintain the equipment? How will the electrical systems interact with cooling and other facility controls?
This approach makes the dependencies visible before they become scheduling problems.
Where The Partnership Opportunities Emerge
Consider an illustrative developer evaluating onsite generation.
An equipment provider can address part of the requirement. The project team should also evaluate fuel delivery, engineering, approvals, installation, maintenance, and integration with the facility’s electrical system.
That creates potential roles for fuel providers, engineering firms, electrical contractors, controls companies, and service organizations.
The commercial opportunity becomes more specific when a company can explain which dependency it resolves and how that helps the customer proceed.
A useful partnership proposition might be: “Together, we can evaluate and deliver the generation, fuel, and controls package this project requires.”
Its credibility depends on defined responsibilities and verified project conditions.
How Power Connects To The Other Pillars
Power decisions belong alongside site selection, cooling design, workforce planning, approvals, financing, and environmental performance.

What load must be served at opening and at each expansion phase?
What evidence supports the proposed service date?

If onsite generation is proposed, what must be established around fuel, approvals, and operations?
